Although Roger Corman has sole credit, Hellman was one
of several Corman proteges, along with Jack Hill and
Francis Ford Coppola, who directed parts of THE TERROR.

When producer Roger Corman was unhappy with young director
Francis Ford Coppola's initial cut of DEMENTIA 13, he assigned
reshoots to Jack Hill and later had Hellman shoot a new prologue.

According to almost everyone involved, Hellman directed most of this
1974 Hammer/Shaw Brothers co-production before being fired by producer
Michael Carreras, who took over and gave himself sole directing credit.

Hellman took over this notoriously troubled project
after director Mark Robson and star Robert Shaw
both died of heart attacks during production.

Hellman handled some uncredited second-unit duties
when director Paul Verhoeven fell behind schedule.

Hellman was an early supporter of Quentin Tarantino
and served as an executive producer on his debut
